To All CUPE Locals:

As you know, the people of Saskatchewan will experience a change of government for the first time in 16 years this fall.

Our union has had a respectful and productive relationship with the NDP government of Saskatchewan for the past 16 years. It is our sincere hope that a similar attitude of mutual respect can be developed with this new government, led by the premier elect, Brad Wall.

In the past, Wall and his Saskatchewan Party MLA’s have been less than kind in their references towards unions and the Trade Union Act and Labour Standards Act which protect the working people of this province.

During his campaign in the 2007 general election, Wall stated that he was not interested in the privatization of public services. CUPE Saskatchewan will be diligent in lobbying the provincial government to keep this promise.

Our union is respectful of the democratic process, and will continue to be respectful of the people’s decision, by working with Premier Wall and his government for the benefit of Saskatchewan citizens.

I would like to extend my thanks, and the thanks of your union, to all the CUPE members who worked with provincial candidates, volunteered in campaign offices, or did any work for Elections Saskatchewan. It is your effort and your belief in democracy that strengthens ours.

In Solidarity,

Tom Graham

President, CUPE Saskatchewan
