Prince Albert civic workers achieve tentative agreement

Prince Albert: After more than two years and 35 bargaining meetings, city workers represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 882 finally achieved a tentative agreement with the City of Prince Albert.

The union bargaining committee returned to the bargaining table yesterday with a 97 per cent strike mandate from its membership. A tentative agreement was reached within a few hours.

"The City of Prince Albert finally came to the bargaining table looking for a settlement, instead of concessions," says union spokesperson Carrie McCoshen. "That made all the difference."

The 120 'inside' city workers in CUPE Local 882 are employed in administration, aquatics, concessions and playgrounds.

No details of the four-year agreement will be released until members hold their ratification meeting on July 12, but McCoshen says the union negotiating committee is "relieved" a settlement was reached.

City Council will hold its ratification vote on July 17.
